Who needs electricity to have fun?

This girl.

Sad, but true. I think I found a decent solution to the problem though.

So the power was is out. Has been since early yesterday. This was not part of my plan for this weekend. However, I strive to minimize my daily expectations so I can avoid disappointment. (Expectations are the only source of disappointment.) On the bright side, I completed most of my going-about-town work prior to the outage so the only thing left to do was wait. I figured the power would be back on anytime, so I could just relax for a little while.

A nap or two later with no change makes it close enough to evening time for me to venture out and not be the quiet weirdo in a bar at 15:30 on a Thursday. (However, right now I’m the quiet weirdo sitting at the Lamplighter, finishing this edit on a laptop because there is still no power at my house.)

I settle at my five o’clock favorite, the P & H, an Olympic dive of a dive bar. I find good company, just getting on with the day. No reason to suspect adventure and pretty happy about it. Then, a sip or two into my second beer, two men came in and sat down on either side of me. They are clearly friends and yet I was between their seats. I look up with a smile and ask the man on my left if he would like to swap seats with me. He smiles back and laughs, “No, that’s okay. We’ve been next to each other plenty, for a very long time now.”

I immediately ask if they just got off a submarine (because that’s important information for a girl to know). Rewarding me with a knowing chuckle, they reveal their membership to the band playing across the street that night. A friendly chat and two beers later I find myself on “the list” and enthusiastically agreeing to attend the show.

Serendipity (that minx) knows I can’t afford the cover at 1884 Lounge so she removed that obstacle, with Darren’s help, of course. (Thanks man.) My gratitude goes deep because now I not only found something new to try, but also on a night when I desperately need distraction. I went out seeking low-key entertainment and stumbled across something unexpected. Makes ya want to believe in fate, eh?
