First, I want to make sure no one got washed away during the flash floods that hit around 6PM last night. Still here? Good. 😉 That freakishly heavy rain was a hidden blessing for the evening as a whole. The the temperature plummeted to a comfortable 70ish degrees and the persistent rain was a mere inconvenience. Of course, I did not attend the Overton Square event in the Tower Courtyard, so my perspective might be a little skewed.

Ohmigosh – there is SO MUCH to choose from. I don’t think you can swing a dead cat without hitting an event in Memphis this weekend. I’m not even going to mention scheduled weekly stuff this go round – those will be here later. Honestly, if you don’t leave home this weekend you should eat a gallon of shame ice cream. Hark, rainbows! I’m sure I wasn’t the only one walking around yesterday staring at the eastern sky. There is just something about light refracting through water droplets that makes me feel like a silly little girl. And the good omen cliche held true – it was a glorious night as I flitted about Madison Avenue in search of fun. I managed to chill out and party like a rock star all at the same time.

On Sunday, after casually strolling around the flea market, I meandered down to the Hi Tone right at 5pm. At first, I wasn’t entirely sure I had gotten the time right. Then I espied a lone guitar on stage.

I am glad the rain held off until after dark yesterday. Not only did it make for a great day to be out and about, but the overnight thunderstorm did NOT knock out my power (for once). So today I’m going to start what I hope to be a regular Monday installment – Weeknight Wheelin’. … *blink* … or maybe something less lame.

Third time’s the charm?

Black Lodge, Hi Tone, Minglewood

After two nights in a row of being a butterfly, this moth is going to spend some time at home. Dogs, couch, comfort. *sigh*

If you’re looking for some fun, I hear Black Lodge is having a party. The Hi-Tone is always a nice place to wait out the rain. Or if the weather has you down, go see the sights at the Minglewood goth scene.

Once the power was restored Friday afternoon and I finished catching up on my computer-based work (and play), it was nearly 8PM. I had been looking forward to Friday’s show at the Poplar Lounge all week yet I found myself so exhausted I didn’t even want to get dressed. This is the same feeling you get after working all week, knowing there is fun to be had and there’s only a lack of motivation keeping you from having it. Running on fumes.

Fortunately, this is why caffeine was invented. A quick jolt gets you out the door and once you are out the second wind kicks in. I also had a friend of mine call to provide that little extra push. Keeping up with people who like to do things is another great way to stay active in the face of lethargy.

Who needs electricity to have fun?

Sad, but true. I think I found a decent solution to the problem though.

So the power was is out. Has been since early yesterday. This was not part of my plan for this weekend. However, I strive to minimize my daily expectations so I can avoid disappointment. (Expectations are the only source of disappointment.) On the bright side, I completed most of my going-about-town work prior to the outage so the only thing left to do was wait. I figured the power would be back on anytime, so I could just relax for a little while.
