Punk band from Spain. I think I heard it on KEXP but could have easily been WEVL. That’s my entire point with the disparity. WEVL is a volunteer radio station that’s existed in Memphis for over 41 years with absolutely no endorsement or subsidization. People dedicated to music and its history sharing with the public. Having them streaming on the internet is momentous. We could create a library off their content that would bring music lovers to their knees. If only there was funding for that sort of thing in the midSouth. Seattle is so spoiled.
The artists I admire now have 150 word stories in semi-national internet publications. Their google hits are flanked with advertisements for things like The World’s Most Deadliest Snakes and how to lose 15 lbs in 6 weeks. I don’t know what to take seriously and what is just monkeys on typewriters. I value actual moments with people, when I get the chance to connect. The artists I admire often appreciate adulation and I know how to ask good questions about the process. I’m genuinely curious. I always want to know what other outliers think of this world developing around us.
Sitting alone to know my place, you shouldn’t need asterisks in a single post. Stopping to think is also called a pregnant pause. I met a boy tonight that suddenly grabbed me by the back of the head to pull my ear closer to his. Not an overtly aggressive gesture, it was sudden and unexpected in my new PNW environment. I pulled back and calmed myself without saying anything directly. He was describing a breakup and its consequences. After the fact, I mention that grabbing someone to make a point might not give a great first impression. He got defensive instead of hearing what I said.
I didn’t check out completely but that was where I pulled back. Recognizing a disconnect, I spent the rest of the round trying to explain why I’m decent friend and not much else. I think I got the point across. I’m planning to throw my next few months into music cultivation. I have some live shows lined up and true-to-form I have 2 tickets to each. My friend Dave has offered to fill vacant slots but I maintain hope someone might actually be excited to join me. No expectations, just faith that I’m not alone in my good taste. The other option is resale profit, which might be my deal for Lords of Acid. We shall see.
