If someone wants attention, I hope they get it. I hear other complaining about unwanted attention. I hope all the people heaping this unwanted attention on the unwilling can be drawn away. Like a zombie hoard following a car alarm. The attention seeker needs to stay on the move to avoid getting mobbed. The key to maintaining popularity is a continually new audience. Just like Hollywood stars except calibrated to the level people actually warrant. Some people will be disappointed by the number of degenerates that still don’t find them interesting.
I like to think of popularity in terms of how long a line people will wait in to be near you. I tend not to wait that long, ever. The two times I’ve been willing to wait in line to meet someone there wasn’t a line. To my surprise and amazement. The second time it happened I hung out for such a long time I made the celebrities uncomfortable. To my dismay. But I am crazy at my heart. I believe they should be flattered I consider them celebrities worth my notice. Ego maniacally.
Performers deliberately put themselves at a disadvantage by requiring a stage. Only good performers can regularly draw a new audience. The rest of us get a couple decent attendance levels until our friends list is exhausted and it’s only the 3rd week of your open mic debut before you’re old news. 15 minutes of fame is a generous estimate for most. The only thing that draws a new audience to one location continuously are landmarks and tourist traps. I’m glad I work for an official landmark. Best job security I’ve ever had.
